[b]Game Overview
Team Fortress 2 is most likely contains the most fun out of any of the games in the Orange box with the least amount of stress. The game has great atmosphere, and really sucks you in after you get the chance to play as each character.
There are 9 classes, as depicted below:
These classes vary in speed and health, and all have special abilities. The Scout can jump twice, and runs quickly, while the Heavy has the most health and ammo, while the Spy can disguise himself as the enemy. The amount of variety is staggering, and I can guarantee that you will eventually have a favorite class. For the PC version, Valve is now releasing achievement gained unlocks, giving classes new weapons to better suite their playing style. Each weapon tends to have
Team Fortress 2 contains multiple game modes, including flag capture and standard 5 point control. There are also variants of the control point gamemode, and now has a checkpoint progress gamemode. The amount of maps may not be the highest you will ever see, but the layout for each and every one of them is unique, classy, and most off all, fun. Valve has introduced two new maps for the PC, which is the second reason this game is best on the computer. The maps also tend to leave routes that can only be accessed by certain classes, so variety in ones play style is very much encouraged.
The unlocks are actually fun to get, but normally require friends to unlock the more difficult ones. Most of the achievements can be acquired through moderate to aggressive gameplay, though some require a friend or very good luck. The only unlocks so far are for the Medic and Pyro classes, but all classes are expected to receive unlocks. Normally at least one or two unlocks suit your play style, and you can even change them mid-round.
And now I present the final scores:
1.
Audio - 10
The characters all have hilarious voice acting, and the dialog is extremely convincing. All of the weapons have unique sounds and are very believable. The ambient noise even contributes to the comical feel.
2.
Graphics -9
The graphics may not be of the highest polygraph in some instances, but the faces are perfect, down
to the wrinkles. The weapons and characters all fit perfectly into this silly cartoonish bloodbath. Even the maps have those small improbabilities and cliches one sees in Saturday morning cartoons.
3.
Controls -10
While I cannot speak for the console versions of the game as of yet, I can tell you that on the PC, the game is very easily played, and the controls are simplistic enough to master within an hour or two of gameplay.
4.
Content -10
This game just keeps getting bigger and bigger. The content was large to begin with, with achievements galore and plenty of maps, and now the achievement count has tripled, and there are now unlocks and 2 new maps. (This is only for the PC version, which I highly recommend)
5.
Replayability -9
This game can be played over and over, and not even the same map gets boring. I find that this game never gets boring, and at the rate new content is added, most likely never will.
6.
Multiplayer -10
Since this game is entirely MP, Valve gave their best, and created a prodigy. This game has enough classes to master to keep a sugar crazed 3 year old busy.
7.
Story -0
As much as it angers me to do so, I have to give this category a zero. (In my head I just add 1 point to the total score).
8.
Innovation -9
While this game is a sequel, based of Team Fortress Classic, it does everything new. Everything from the art style to weapons has been built from the ground up, creating new, creative characters.
9.
Getting Into It -10
This game will literally steal every second you leave unoccupied. I lose track of time playing this game, and that fact does not surprise me in the least.
10.
Game Length -10
This game last as long as you want, and I'm guessing that's a pretty long time. This game has infinite playability, and is fun enough for that playability to go into effect.
Total Score 8.7 (though it should be 9.7)
Final comment: Buy it. Now.
